PAINTING MASK

SAVE time!  Tape masking and trimming takes a lot of time! Duplicate the factory engine painting process using this kit. 

Crafted in the USA for durability and accuracy of fitment, this set is ideal for duplicating the factory engine painting process for your restoration! Based on information from my MMC Detroit Dave Wise book, this kit provides contoured paint mask plates, caps and plastic plugs to simulate how the factory painted the engine. 

In summary, the engine was fully assembled MINUS the carburetors, distributor, valve cover breather, intake vacuum nipple on the manifold and the large oil pressure sending unit for the gage option only (light version the sensor was installed). Also, a cardboard sleeve was put onto the oil filter. 

You can also use this kit for engine storage or see other kits available to meet your needs.  I have plates to block off the exhaust manifold outlets that can be added for complete sealing.

Materials of construction

3D printed using PLA plastic. PLA is a common filament used by FDM 3D printing due to its ease and accuracy of printing.  It has some of the best mechanical properties of all 3D filaments.

UNDER HOOD FLUIDS -I have tested this material by soaking in used antifreeze, used engine oil and gasoline - common under hood fluids - and have seen no degradation dimensionally or structurally. However, soaking in Acetone, Brake Parts Cleaner, Lacquer Thinner of similar solvents with soften the material. Brief wiping with these fluids is possible due to the quick evaporation. 

ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURES- PLA is not recommended for any high temperature applications.  If you are baking the engine after paint, please remove the 3D printed parts prior so they may be reused. The heat deflection temperature is 134F (57C), it is UV resistant and not know to attract rodents (like some electrical wires) even though it is made from bio products such as corn.

This kit will fir AAR Cuda & T/A Challenger 340 and 440 six pack/six-barrel applications

These were design with many iterations to match the machined surface contours for precise masking.  I did not just match the gaskets or carburetors due to the possibility of not being able to get good paint coverage and to simulate what I understand to be the factory masking process. 

OPTIONAL FASTENER KIT

(12) - 5/16 - 18 x 3/4" bolts & washers - included in the price is the additional shipping costs to add the fasteners.  These are grade 2 zinc plated.
